Two complementary approaches: relieving symptoms day to day, and removing the diseased fatty tissue when indicated.
There is no miracle cure, but concrete solutions. Conservative care relieves; surgery removes the diseased fat.
Conservative care mainly aims to relieve symptoms, not to change the appearance of the limbs. Surgery aims to durably remove the diseased fatty tissue.
It reduces volume only modestly (around 5–10%) but eases pain and tightness. Its components include:
Conservative care genuinely relieves symptoms, but it does not reliably prevent progression.
When symptoms persist and impair quality of life despite well-conducted conservative care, surgery can be considered. WAL (Water-jet Assisted Liposuction) is regarded as best suited to lipedema, being gentler on vessels and tissue than conventional, laser or ultrasonic techniques. It is the technique used at the partner clinic in Málaga.
Lipedema is chronic: surgery is not a definitive "cure", but it durably reduces symptoms and diseased tissue. Results and indications are assessed individually after examination.
